Lois Carolyn Granquist Nordin

Lois Carolyn Granquist Nordin, 95, formerly of Scandia, Pa., passed away August 24, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Jamestown, N.Y.

Lois was born on December 1, 1925, in Warren, Pa., to the late William and Bertha Ruckman Granquist. She graduated with honors from Warren High School. Following high school and during WWII, Lois received Telegraph Training with Western Union, and was a participant in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program.

Lois worked as a bank teller for the Warren National Bank and was also a secretary for the First United Methodist Church of Warren for 16 years. All the while she was employed and raising her children, Lois worked side by side with her husband John on the farm in Scandia. She was a member of the Cable Hollow Church and the Scandia Covenant Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a Ladies’ Aid. She was also a member of the Russell VFD, where she served as treasurer and Trustee. Lois will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

Lois is survived by her husband of 71-plus years, John C. Nordin, whom she married on October 15, 1949; four children, David (Brenda) Nordin of Clinton, NC, Rebecca (Mark) Verhagen of Cincinnati, OH, Nancy (Kurt) Cornfield Lynchburg, VA, and Jeffrey (Jill) Nordin of Warren; one sister, Ruth Ann Young of Gerry, NY; seven grandchildren, John G. Nordin, Lydia Honken, Dr. Koert Verhagen, Kyle Cornfield, Kirstin Spivey, Linnea Rico, and Carolyn Humphreys; two step grandchildren, Andrew Raymond and Bryce Raymond; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by brother, Harold Granquist a granddaughter, Meredith Keir; and great-granddaughter, Lydia Rose.

Family and friends will be received at the Cable Hollow Church, 3157 Cable Hollow Rd, Russell, PA., on Saturday, August 28, 2021, from 10 am until 11 am, at which time a funeral service will be held, with Rev. Allen Jones, pastor, and Dr. Koert Verhagen, co-officiating.

Burial will be private in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, PA.

The family suggests memorial donations for Lois be made to the Cable Hollow Community Church, or to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmont Ave., Lakewood, NY, 14750
