Leichtenberger Sets School Shot Put Record; Warren County Athletes Shine at Oil City Invitational

OIL CITY, Pa. – Sheffield senior Emily Leichtenberger left her mark at the 32nd annual Oil Country Invitational in Oil City Saturday.

She finished in the top five in all three throwing events, and broke a 39-year-old school record in the process. Her final throw in the shot put went a school record 33′ 10.75″ which was good for fifth at the event.

Leichtenberger’s throw broke the mark of 33′ 4″ set by Rhonda Heckathorn in 1982. See the record-breaking throw here (video courtesy Jason Snell).

Leichtenberger finished third in both the discus and javelin as well. Fellow Wolverine Emily Foster took fifth in the high jump.

Youngsville’s Jake Hogg took first in the high jump and second in the triple jump.

Elsewhere in the field events, Warren’s Sophie Olson was fourth in the discus, while Dragons Parker Shene and Alex Ferry took third and fifth, respectively, in the high jump and Alex Zeigler was fifth in the shot put.

Warren’s girls had a solid day on the track. Kyleigh Wilson took first in the 100, second in the 200 and fourth in the long jump. Laney Gatto was second in the 100. Paige Johnson (1600) and Alexa Bowers (300 hurdles) each finished fifth and the 4 x 100 relay team took second.

Eisenhower’s and Warren’s boys also showed their speed on the track. Ike’s Alex Hummel was second in the 400. The 4 x 100 relay team was fourth, the 4 x 400 team second and the 4 x 800 team fourth.

For the Dragons, Hugh Harrison (3200), Trevor Wills (110 hurdles) and the 4 x 400 relay team each finished fifth, while Ethan Best took third in the 300 hurdles.
