LaVerne E. Skinner

LaVerne E. Skinner, 86, of Dyer Road, Bear Lake, Pa., died Jan. 28, 2022, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 9, 1935, to the late Basil and Anna Thomas Skinner.

LaVerne was raised and educated in Bear Lake and graduated from Youngsville High School in 1955.

After high school, he worked for Welch’s and then hauled Milk. LaVerne bought his family’s farm and took care of it for many years. He also was a truck driver for several years and worked for many different companies. He retired in 1998. After retirement, he enjoyed hauling odds and ends.

He was a member of the Bear Lake United Methodist Church until they closed. Since 1954, LaVerne was a member of the Bear Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed woodworking, puzzles, and camping. He loved to spend time with his family and his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, LaVerne is preceded in death by a son, Kevin Skinner; five sisters: Gladys Volk, Josephine Skinner, Mildred Smith, Betty Skinner and Esther Skinner; and four brothers: Ernest, Alan, Basil Jr. and Edward Skinner.

LaVerne is survived by his wife, Nancy Snow Skinner, whom he married on May 12, 1962, in Bear Lake, Pa.; one daughter, Karen Skinner of Corry, Pa.; five sons: Keith Skinner and his wife, Dottie of Crossville, Tenn., Edward Skinner of Jamestown, N.Y., Eric Skinner and his wife, Tracy of Springville, N.Y., Evan Skinner of Arcade, N.Y., and Kent Skinner and his wife, Tina of Bear Lake, Pa.; two sisters: Hazel LaCarmen and her husband, Richard of Bear Lake, Pa,. and Marjorie Kopta and her husband, Charles of South Ripley, N.Y.; and one brother: Clarence Skinner of Bear Lake, Pa.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held there, Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pastor Les Utegg will officiate Burial will be in Bear Lake Cemetery, Bear Lake, Pa.
