CLARENDON, Pa. – Chapman State Park will be playing host to several programs over Labor Day weekend.
On Saturday (Sept. 4) there will be the ‘Bat Box Building’ from 6-7 p.m. Learn about the decline of Pennsylvania’s bat population and how you can help by putting up bat boxes. All materials will be provided to make and take a bat box.
Also on that Saturday, there will be a ‘Drive-In Night Sky Watch from 8-10 p.m. Join Tom Traub, Director for the Martz Observatory and learn the essentials of stargazing. Binoculars, spotting scopes, telescopes, blankets/chairs and or flashlights are recommended. The park’s telescopes will be available for use.
On Sunday (Sept. 5) there will be a ‘Smokey Parade’ from 7-7:45 p.m. Smokey Night will begin with a parade through the campground led by Smokey Bear himself. All children and campers are invited to participate in the parade on either foot or bicycle. The parade will end at the Amphitheater for a program on fire prevention to celebrate Smokey’s birthday.
The day will conclude with ‘Smokey Night’ from 7:45-9 p.m. Join Chapman State Park, the Bureau of Forestry and the Clarendon Fire Department for a night of fun. Firefighting equipment, birthday cake, hot dog roasting and Smokey Bear. The symbol of fire prevention turns 77 this year. Smokey will help cut his birthday cake, meet and meet and greet his friends during the celebration.
