Knights Topple Tigers

RUSSELL, Pa. – A 5-run third inning broke a 1-1 tie and lifted Eisenhower to an 8-3 win over Maplewood on Saturday.

The Tigers had just tied the game in the top of the inning only to see the Knights’ offense explode in the bottom half. Eisenhower scored its five runs on four hits and three walks.

The Knights drew three straight 1-out walks, by Caleb Jakubczak, Camron Jakubczak, and Johnny Palmieri. Derek Childs followed with a 2-run single that brought in both Jakubczaks. Kael Hunt grounded into a fielder’s choice that put runners on the corners after Childs was forced out at second. Shawn Pascuzzi and Spencer Wynn hit back-to-back RBI singles to put the Knights ahead 6-1.

Landyn Reynolds had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Tigers’ offense. Elijah Hochstettler had two hits and an RBI and Isaac Williams had three hits.

Hochstettler took the loss allowing six runs, four earned, on two hits with four walks and a strikeout in 2 ⅔ innings. Andrew Proper gave up two runs, one earned, on one hit with two walks and a strikeout in 1 ⅓ innings.

Wynn had a hit and drove in three, while Childs had two RBIs.

Hunt scored three times and got the win on the mound. He allowed three runs, one earned, on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts in six innings. Garrett Jensen threw a scoreless inning of relief.
