Katherine “Kate” T. Check, 98, of Clarendon, Pa., died peacefully surrounded by her family, Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home, Warren, Pa.

She was born June 14, 1923, in Warren, Pa. She was the daughter of Frank and Mary Josephine Suppa Notoro.

Kate was a lifelong resident of Clarendon, Pa. She was a 1942 graduate of Warren High School. Kate was employed with the former New Process Company as a machine operator, retiring from there after many years employment. She was a member of the former St. Clara’s Roman Catholic Church and St. Anthony’s of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Saybrook, Pa., Kate was a strong member of Clarendon Community and went to the post office everyday and picked up everybody’s mail and would personally deliver the mail to her relatives and friends. She was known by many as Nana.

She is survived by her daughters: Sheila Shrefler and Caroline Logan and husband, Larry, all of Clarendon, Pa.; three grandchildren: Todd Alan Shrefler, Mandy Marie Shrefler Fitzgerald, who was Kate’s caregiver and Matthew Paul Logan; nine great-grandchildren: Cody Alan Shrefler, Alexandria Marie Shrefler, Seth C. Kraemer, Brianna Nicole Shrefler, Kylie M. Morgan, Tyler Cole Shrefler, Josh Shrefler, Olivia Rae Logan and Bentley Glenn Logan; and two great-great-grandsons; Ryan and Riker Shrefler; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. “Punk” Check, who died on April 19, 2010, whom she married July 26, 1950, in Clarendon, Pa.; six brothers: Joseph, Frank, Ralph, Anthony, John and Sam Notoro; two sisters: Mary Benson and Angeline Costello; a son-in-law, Frank Shrefler; and her dear friend and companion, her cat, Rusty.

Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East St., Warren, Pa.. on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, from 10-11 a.m., at which time a funeral service will be conducted by Deacon Raymond Wiehagen. Face masks and social distancing will be observed. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park.
