SHARON, Pa. – Gannon Jaquay made sure his first match at the PIAA Class 2A Northwest Regional tournament was memorable as he earned his 100th career win with a decision victory.

The Eisenhower senior topped Ridgway’s Tyler Merritt, 5-1, in their first round match at 152 pounds to reach the milestone. Jaquay has a 100-43 career record heading into Saturday’s action. He dropped into the consolation bracket after a 7-4 loss to Grove City’s Hunter Hohman.

Jaquay will face Greenville’s Luke Gentile on Saturday. The two met during the District 10 tournament, where Jaquay came away with an 8-2 decision.

Fellow Knight Cael Black is in the championship semifinals. Black opened the tournament with a first-period pin over Seneca’s Michael Spires. He then topped Cranberry’s Brayden McFetridge, 11-4, in the quarterfinals.

Black will face a familiar opponent in the semis when he takes on Corry’s Hayden Linkerhof. The two have met five times over the last two postseasons. Linkerhof has won all five matches, all by decision and none by more than two points.

Youngsville’s Ian Mancuso (120 pounds) and Sheffield’s Danah Campbell (285 pounds) each lost their opening matches to drop into the consolation bracket at their respective weight classes.

Mancuso lost a 9-5 decision to Brockway’s Colton Ross in the first round, while Campbell dropped a 5-1 decision to Titusville’s Lodge Nosko in the quarterfinals.

Mancuso will face Redbank Valley’s Colton Bish and Campbell will square off against Commodore Perry’s Garet Gathrie in their first match on Saturday.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the PIAA State Tournament in Hershey March 10 – 12.
