Janice Kunselman

March 4, 2021

Janice Marie Kunselman, 84, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, from the Warren Manor, Warren, PA. She was born at home on June 20, 1936, in Pittsfield, PA, the first child of Fenton and Dorothy (Cady) Hazeltine.

Janice graduated from the Youngsville High School in 1954 and then attended God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, OH, where she received her diploma in the Christian Workers Course in 1958. While at GBS she met John Kunselman whom she married on June 18, 1960. After their marriage, her husband served as pastor in the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Connection. Together they ministered in the following churches: Blue Eye Chapel, Spring Creek, PA (1960-67); Brown Hill, Youngsville, PA (1967-74, 1994-2004); Zion, Stoneboro, PA (1974-79); Smethport, Glen Campbell, PA (1979-91); Greenville, PA (1991-94); and Sagamore, PA (2004-08).

Mrs. Kunselman was a faithful pastor’s wife, ministering to members of the congregation in times of need, leading in children’s ministry, and quietly doing her part in whatever way she could. From 1987 to 2016 she served as statistician for the Young Missionary Workers’ Band of the denominational Woman’s Missionary Society. She was a talented and meticulous seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and baking. Her family remembers her delicious homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and cakes.

She is survived by four children, Rev. Steve (and Amy) Kunselman of Hillsdale, PA, Esther (and Rev. Barry) Sweitzer of Hanover, PA, James (and Lydia) Kunselman of Salem, OH, and Sarah (and Daniel) Klenck of Warren, PA; a son-in-law, Carl Delzell of Barstow, CA; two sisters, Carol (and Rev. Jack) Dearth of Florida and Evelyn (and Duane) Bennett of Spring Creek, PA; three brothers, Fenton “Butch” (and Dolores) Hazeltine and Carl (and Cathy) Hazeltine, both of Pittsfield, PA, and John (and Carol) Hazeltine of Lottsville, PA; a sister-in-law, Joan Hazeltine of Lottsville, PA; ten grandchildren, Benjamin and Andrew Sweitzer, Mary Rose (and Rev. Scott) Bennett, LCpl Bradley, Matthew, Jason, and Tyler Klenck, John and Timothy Delzell, and Karen (and Tommy) Hare; three great-grandchildren, Daniel Bennett, and Zelda and Luke Hare; and many nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 2014; a daughter, Priscilla Delzell; and a brother, Raymond Hazeltine.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Pittsfield, PA. Those wishing to place memorials may do so to the Pittsfield Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church or Warren Manor Activity Fund. McKinney Funeral Home in Youngsville has been entrusted with all arrangements.
