HERSHEY, Pa. – A pair of Eisenhower senior wrestlers finished their stellar careers at the PIAA State Championships in Hershey over the weekend.
Cael Black went 4-2 in the state tournament at 215 pounds to finish seventh in the state. After going 1-1 on Thursday, Black won his first two consolation matches on Friday to get to the consolation quarterfinals. He opened the day with an 8-3 decision over Southmoreland’s Anthony Govern, then followed with a 2-1 win over Berks Catholic’s Brody Kline.
In the consi round of 4, Black was decked by Wyalusing’s Nicholas Woodruff, the Northeast Region champion, to fall into the seventh-place match. Black topped Saucon Valley’s Dante Mahaffey, 10-7, to earn the seventh-place medal.
The four-time state qualifier earned his second state medal and ends his career with a 132-30 record, including a Northwest Regional and Section championship. His 132 wins are second in program history behind Logan Jaquay’s 140 (2017-2020). In four years Black had three top-3 finishes at districts and four top-4 finishes in regionals.
Fellow Knight senior Gannon Jaquay also went 1-1 on Thursday, with the loss coming to eventual state champion Jackson Arrington of Forest Hills. Jaquay lost his first consolation match, 9-0, to Wyoming Area’s Cooper Pierce to end his tournament and bring his high school career to a close.
Jaquay ends his Eisenhower career with a 104-46 record and a Section title in 2021.
