SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Friday was the culmination of years of hard work for Youngsville senior Jake Hogg.

The Eagle soared, earning a pair of silver medals at the PIAA Class 2A Track and Field championships at Shippensburg University.

Hogg cleared 6-6 in the high jump, finishing second to Chestnut Ridge’s Logan Pfister, who cleared 6-7. Hogg barely nicked the bar on his final attempt at the height.

“I did pretty good in the prelims in the triple,” Hogg said. “I was a little worried about saving my legs for the high so I scratched the finals. I felt good, but I just wore out. But I got two seconds.”

Nevertheless, he had that along with his second place in the triple with a leap of 44-11. Only Idris Ali of Loyalsock went farther at 45-2 ½.

“It’s been a lot of workouts in the offseason, a lot of grinding,” Hogg said. “It’s great. This was my goal, but I definitely did not think I would make it in the triple. There’s been a lot of explosive drills we’ve been doing. Coach has helped me to get my phases down.”

To put Hogg’s day in perspective, Youngsville finished 11th in the team standings. Hogg was the only Eagle to compete. Essentially, Hogg was the 11th best Class 2A boys track and field team in Pennsylvania.

Of course, it’s not that black and white, but it nevertheless speaks to just how much Hogg accomplished on Friday after not being able to compete as a junior due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was sad not being able to compete last year, but I did good this year,” he said.
