Forest Service Seeking Comment on Proposals to Address Structural Issues on Piers at Webbs Ferry and Elijah Run

May 14, 2024

BRADFORD, Pa. — The Forest Service has a proposal to address deferred maintenance and structural issues on two fishing piers, at Webbs Ferry and Elijah Run, within the Allegheny National Forest.

The Webbs Ferry and Elijah Run fishing piers were constructed in the 1990s. In 2022, structural issues were identified by engineers conducting routine inspections and both piers were closed. The inspections found that both piers needed repairs to ensure continued public safety. The piers were further evaluated by a structural engineer who put together a repair plan for both structures.

The Webbs Ferry fishing pier is located at Webbs Ferry Boat Launch south of the New York State line on the west shore of the Allegheny Reservoir. This pier would require extensive reconstruction to address the safety issues identified in the 2022 inspection. The Forest Service is proposing to remove the Webbs Ferry fishing pier.

The Elijah Run fishing pier is located at Elijah Run Boat Launch on the west bank of the Allegheny Reservoir off the Longhouse Scenic Drive. This pier would require moderate maintenance to address the safety issues identified in the 2022 inspection. The Forest Service is proposing to repair the Elijah Run fishing pier during low water in late 2024 or early 2025.

Comments on the proposals for these fishing piers should received by June 30, 2024. Comments may be submitted in the following ways:
