Forest Service Finds No Significant Environmental Impact for Vegetation Management Project in McKean County

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – The USDA Forest Service, Allegheny National Forest has determined that the Madlick vegetation management project poses no significant environmental impact. 

The 10,736-acre project area is located in Hamilton and Wetmore Townships, McKean County, Pennsylvania. The proposed action includes timber harvesting on 1,425 acres with associated reforestation treatments, non-native plant species treatments on 400 acres, wildlife habitat enhancements on 26 acres, large wood introductions along 16.7 miles of stream, 1.6 miles of road construction using new corridors, 4.1 miles of road construction using existing corridors, and applying high-quality road surfacing to 3.3 miles of road.

In conducting the Madlick Environmental Assessment, all environmental effects, public comments, and inputs were considered for the decision, according to the Forest Service.

Objections for this project, including any attachments or supporting documentation, will be accepted for 45 days from the notice being published in the Kane Republican, which was Nov. 16. Only those individuals or organizations that submitted written comments during one of the designated comment periods are eligible to object.

Objections, including attachments, must be filed in one of the following ways:

• Hand delivery to the address above during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding federal holidays).

• Email to [email protected]. Acceptable formats for electronic objections are text or html email, Adobe portable document format (pdf), and formats viewable in Microsoft Office applications.

If no objection is received, a final decision may occur on, but not before, five business days from the close of the objection filing period.

If an objection is received, a final decision will not occur before all instructions identified by the Reviewing Officer have been addressed.
