STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The National Weather Service in State College has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Warren County beginning at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18.
The watch runs until 2 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19.
Widespread heavy rain of one to three inches is possible, along with localized amounts possibly exceeding five inches, as the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred pass through the area.
Rapid runoff from the heavy rain could lead to poor drainage flooding and fast rises on area streams and creeks. River flooding is not expected as of Tuesday afternoon, but larger areas of heavy rain could cause significant runoff into one or more larger river basis, increasing the threat of flooding.
The NWS warns that people should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should a Flash Flood Warning be issued.
The NWS and CDC remind motorists not to drive through flooded areas, “Turn around, don’t drown.”
The risk of landslips as well as scattered to numerous flash flood events extends across the High and Moderate Risk areas today. We’re hoping this jingle will get stuck in your head, and you heed its advice when approaching flooded roads:
