Elevated Wildfire Risk for June 7, 2023

June 7, 2023

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The National Weather Service in State College is warning of elevated wildfire risk for Warren and McKean Counties on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

The combination of dry, breezy weather and low relative humidity will lead to an elevated risk for wildfire spread throughout central PA, according to the NWS. Humidity values are expected to range between 20 and 30 percent, with sustained winds at 10 – 15 mph and gusts up to 20 mph.

“Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches,” the NWS said. “If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly.”

For more information about wildfire danger, burn restrictions, and wildfire prevention and education, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website.
