Eisenhower’s Black Presented With Paul Clough Wrestling Scholarship

May 30, 2022

RUSSELL, Pa. – Eisenhower senior Cael Black was recently presented with the Paul Clough Wrestling Scholarship, presented to the outstanding senior wrestler in Warren County.

Paul Clough was the head wrestling coach at Youngsville and an assistant coach at Sheffield before his passing in 2022. Clough’s son, Collin, read the announcement, talking about his dad and the love of wrestling they shared.

“Him and my mom had me when he was only 21 years old because he wanted a son to wrestle with before he was too old and hurting,” Collin said.”As a coach, he was great. He told kids the wrestling season never stops and that if you’re just sitting around at home, your opponent is getting better. If you had a goal you told him about, he was going to do everything in his power to make sure you got there as long as you’re willing to do whatever it takes.

“One of his favorite sayings was ‘mind over matter.’ When it came to a wrestler’s last match senior year, he would always say go out there and have fun and do your best because you don’t want to live life with any regrets wishing you tried harder.”

Black had a decorated high school career, including reaching the 100-win milestone and multiple PIAA medals. He will be attending Lock Haven University in the fall, where he will continue his wrestling career.
