Eisenhower looks to start season 2-0

September 18, 2020

Eisenhower avenged a loss to Union City in 2019 by shutting out the Bears in Week 1, 47-0. The Knights’ full display of offensive firepower shined, led by Cael Black (110 yards rushing), Zane Alexander, Dillon Benson and Owen Trumbull.

Now they will look to start the season 2-0 when they travel to Erie to take on Iroquois in a Region 5 showdown.

“We’re tired of losing – plain and simple,” Black said after the win over Union City. “The last two years have been a struggle, but we know we’ve been on the come up, and tonight we were able to show it.”

They will be facing an Iroquois team that raced to a 55-30 win over Seneca. The Braves ran wild, with three backs going over the 100-yard mark, led by Antonio Rodriguez, who scored three touchdowns. That rushing attack will no doubt be the focal point of the Eisenhower defense.

“They learned what it meant that if you’re going to be a championship team, you have to be able to play third and fourth quarter,” Eisenhower coach Jim Penley said, referencing his team’s struggle in close games a season ago. “The other blessing that we have is our depth that is much better. We’ve got a lot of young guys that were able to get reps on the field which allowed us to be able to get rest and to be more explosive as we played the game.”

Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
