Eight County Wrestlers Advance to NW Regional Championships

SHARON, Pa. – Eight Warren County wrestlers finished in the top eight at the District 10 AA Championships at Sharon High School Saturday to keep their chance at a trip to Hershey alive.

Those eight grapplers-Eisenhower’s Griffin Williams (114), Tucker Lindell (160), and Benji Bauer (189), Warren’s Adika Fiscus (107), Ryan Fitzsimmons (114), and Evan Swanson (172), and Youngsville’s Ian Mancuso (127) and Logan McDonald (139)-will return to Sharon next weekend for the Northwest Regional Championships. The top four wrestlers will move on to the PIAA State Tournament in Hershey.

Fiscus had the best finish of the county contingent, taking fourth at 107 pounds. He got a forfeit win in the first round, then earned a 12-6 decision over Grove City’s Hudson Wolbert in the quarterfinals. A 15-2 major decision loss to Reynolds’ Angelo Lomonte sent Fiscus to the consolation bracket. He picked up an 8-2 decision over Cochranton’s Kyle Lantz to get into the third-place match but dropped a tough 2-0 decision to Corry’s Steven Willis to finish fourth.

Four of the eight wrestlers finished sixth in their weight class: Williams, Lindell, Mancuso, and McDonald. Bauer took seventh, while Fitzsimmons and Swanson finished eighth.

Fort LeBoeuf won the team title with 178 points, while Northwestern’s Sierra Chase made a statement for girls’ wrestling by winning the 107-pound title.

Eight other county wrestlers saw their seasons come to an end. Eisenhower’s Ryan Chambers, Derek Childs, Brok English, and Mike Vanatta, Warren’s Josh Letko, Grant Heeter, and Joe Krall, and Youngsville’s Aidan Mancuso.

DISTRICT 9 CHAMPIONSHIPS

CLARION, Pa. – Nine Sheffield wrestlers saw their season come to an end at the District 9 AA Championships in Clarion on Saturday.

Three of the nine finished in the top six, but only the top four wrestlers in each weight class advanced to next weekend’s Northwest Regional Championships in Sharon.

AJ Barnes made it to the semifinals at 127 but lost there to eventual champion Evan Davis of Clearfield. A 5-0 loss to St. Mary’s’ Jayce Walter in the consi semis kept Barnes from advancing to regionals. He topped Brookville’s Antonio Thornton, 6-3, to take fifth.

Collin Brown also suffered a semifinal loss to the eventual champion, Brockway’s Parker Pisarchick, at 133. He dropped to the consi semis and finished sixth.

Chase Kyler had to battle back after a quarterfinal loss at 139. He, too, earned a spot in the consi semis before dropping his final two matches to finish sixth.

Hayden Holden, Zack Barnes, Alex Marfink, Trenton Mead, Matt Lobdell, and Quincy Boose also saw their seasons end at districts.
