Eastman, Gesing Lead Lady Knights Rout of Iroquois

September 27, 2022

RUSSELL, Pa. – Elley Eastman and Julia Gesing combined to score all of Eisenhower’s goals as the Lady Knights rolled to a 9-0 win over visiting Iroquois.

It took Eastman just 36 seconds to put the first of her five goals in the back of the net. Gesing had one goal in the first half, and a hat trick in the second to account for her four goals.

“We have been really working on aggressive play and attacking through the middle and outside so we aren’t as easy to defend in the attacking third,” Eisenhower coach Alex Johnson said. “The girls executed wonderfully tonight. Elley had a great game finishing nearly every chance she had.”

Johnson had high praise for his entire midfield.

“I could write an article for each player and the way they played tonight,” Johnson said. “Our Midfield of Emily Grosch, Callan Gigliotti, Cassie Smelko, Elley Eastman, and Clara Steinberg did such a good job controlling the ball and finding options forward.”

The Lady Knights were able to get some of their younger players varsity time in the match as well.

“The best part of the game was being able to see everyone get so much playing time,” Johnson said. “The younger girls of Shayleigh Albaugh, Olivia Wallace, Jordan Jacob, Emilienne Turbide, and Sam Childs majorly stepped up their play tonight. We have worked so hard on fundamentals all season that to be able to watch them go out and dominate the game was great to see.”

The win kept the Lady Knights deadlocked with Mercyhurst Prep atop the Region 3 standings. Both teams are 4-1-1 in the region. The Lakers dealt the Knights their lone loss of the season when they met on Sept. 1. Eisenhower will have a chance to avenge that loss when the Lady Knights welcome the Lakers on Thursday.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
