County Count Changes Again

August 22, 2020

For the second time in less than two weeks, an investigation into a confirmed COVID-19 case has resulted in the case being removed from Warren County’s count and assigned to another county.

According to Pennsylvania Department of Health numbers released Aug. 22, Warren County’s cumulative case count had dropped to 25, 19 confirmed and six probable. Friday’s release had the county with 20 confirmed cases. The county previously lost a case on Aug. 13.

“As COVID-19 cases are confirmed, we conduct a case investigation,” a DOH communications deputy press secretary told the Times Observer’s Brian Ferry after the Aug. 13 case removal. “During these investigations, we will correct any addresses if needed. Sometimes, you may see cases, as well as deaths, decrease as the confirmed county of residence may be updated.”

Warren County still maintains the lowest cumulative cases per 100,000 total in the state with 63.3. McKean County (85.4) is the only other county with a number under 100.

The county’s cumulative case count also includes those cases the state considers “recovered.”

According to the Department of Health, a case is considered recovered “if a case has not been reported as a death, and it is more than 30 days past the date of their first positive test (or onset of symptoms) then an individual is considered recovered.”

Warren County’s lone death was recorded on June 28.

The statewide total now consists of 128,429 cases with 1,412,124 negatives, 7,576 deaths and 80 percent recovered.
