Council Approves Letter of Support for Eagles Crest Senior Housing Project

May 17, 2022

WARREN, Pa. – On Monday, Warren City Council approved drafting a letter of support for the Eagles Crest Senior Housing Project.

The request for the letter was made by the Hudson Companies, the developer for the project.

The project aims to build a 40-room senior living center, with 35 one-bedroom units and five two-bedroom units. The proposed project would be on the corner of Liberty Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in downtown Warren.

Council members Maurice Cashman and John Wortman recently visited a similar project completed by Hudson in Clarion.

“Both of us came away very impressed with the Clarion project,” Cashman said.

The facility would be available to residents 62 and older, serving those 60 percent and below of the area median income.

“Parking was very easy and accessible and the building was very well maintained,” Wortman said. “The landscaping was very nice. They chose brick because brick is used heavily at Clarion University.”

Hudson would not be seeking any additional funding from the city.

“This, in my opinion, is an opportunity to bring benefit to our city,” Wortman said. “This project has been endorsed numerous times by council in the past. This would allow members of our community to remain members for a longer period of time. It would also add character and create a better experience for all of us who live here.”

Added Cashman: “I don’t believe there’s another facility in Warren County like that. It’s quite impressive.”

APPROVAL GRANTED FOR CHRISTIE’S OUTDOOR ALCOHOL SERVICE

A proposed letter of confirmation was approved for the outdoor sale of alcoholic beverages at Christie’s Downtown Pub & Grille, located at 229 Pennsylvania Ave. West in Warren was approved by council.

“It’s nice to be able to sit outside in the summertime,” said Christie’s owner Tom Christie. “I wanted to make sure to go through council to get permission. There are currently no issues with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board saying no.”
