Christy O. Nelson, 98 years old, of Sugar Grove, Pa, passed away on January 20, 2021 at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice House.
He was born in 1922, in Kane, Pa, a son to the late Walter C. and Dora (Peterson) Nelson. Christy graduated from Kane High School in 1940 and was proud to have earned his Eagle Scout Award. He served his country during WWII, having served in the 5th USAAF with duty in the 12th ordnance Townsville A2, New Guinea and the Philippines.
After the war, he worked for Bell Telephone for 42 years as a cable splicer, retiring in 1982. Christy enjoyed hunting and fishing, he made many trips to Canada and Alaska. He traveled to all of the states except Hawaii. Christy also enjoyed mowing his yard, gardening and watching Westerns. He was a member of the Youngsville American legion, Post 658, the Sugar Grove AMVETS, Post 50 and the F&AM Masonic Lodge #566 in Kane, Pa.
Christy is survived by 3 nephews, John, Doug and Ken Wenslow as well as his good friends and neighbors, Dave and Cheryl VanHouten.
In addition to his parents, Christy was preceded in death by a brother, Robert, a sister, Nancy Wenslow, a brother-in-law, Ron and an infant brother.
Family and friends will be received at the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 314 N. Main Street, Youngsville, Pa 16371 on Saturday from 10-noon at which time a funeral service will be held there with Rev. Rick Hamrick, pastor of the Youngsville Free Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Kane, Pa.
