Cathedral Prep, Villa Maria To Merge In 2022

November 12, 2020

ERIE, Pa. – Students from Villa Maria will be moving to the downtown Erie Cathedral Prep campus in 2022, creating a co-ed college preparatory school beginning in 2022.

From a sports perspective, the school will go by the name Cathedral Prep and its nickname will remain the Ramblers, with orange and black colors, beginning in 2022, Lauren Varner, Vice President of Advancement, confirmed to D9and10sports.com.

There will be a $12.5 million dollar addition at Prep, a 25,000 square-foot building through the generosity of many donors, the school announced, that will focus on STEM (Science, Technology Engineering, Arts and Math) programs and courses. The new building will also include a Student Life Center.

There will be exciting new additions to the former pool space as well.

“We will be adding a fitness center and dance studio in the current school location,” Varner said.

While the Villa Maria location on West Eighth St. in Millcreek will no longer house students, it will still be used for other purposes.

The schools currently have a combined enrollment of 746, per the Prep-VIlla website.

“We’ll use the softball field as well as tennis courts we just finished,” Varner said in relation to athletics.

She also said that Prep-Villa is not looking to sell the Villa property, and it will still be used for educational purposes as well.
