CASA to hold Virtual Information Sessions

September 14, 2021

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Crawford, McKean, Venango and Warren and Forest Counties, non-profit organizations that, through its volunteers, bring a sense of normalcy, stability, and permanency to abused or neglected children, is holding two virtual information sessions for those who are interested in becoming a CASA volunteer.

These one-hour sessions will describe the role of a CASA volunteer along with details on the training and support that is provided. Sessions are scheduled for Thursday, September 16th and Wednesday, September 22nd. Both sessions begin at 6 p.m. To attend, sign up at www.pacasa.org/start.

A CASA volunteer is a trained community member appointed by a judge to serve as the “eyes and ears” of the court. CASA volunteers represent the best interest of the child, many of whom are in foster care, by prioritizing their needs so that their “voice” may be heard in court. In Warren and Forest counties alone, currently, 25 children are eligible and waiting for a CASA volunteer.

Unfortunately, the pandemic has reduced the number of volunteer inquiries. As the need for volunteers rises, CASA of Warren and Forest County is reaching out into the community to find those people who want to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable children in our area.

CASA is the only program of its kind, built around assigning one compassionate adult advocate to the case of one abused and neglected child or sibling group.

In conjunction with these two virtual training sessions, a regional media campaign will raise awareness and recruit new volunteers throughout September.

There are four local CASA programs in NW Pennsylvania: Crawford, Forest and Warren, McKean, and Venango Counties.
