Antonio J. ‘Tony’ Scalise

November 5, 2021

Antonio J. “Tony” Scalise, 70, of Warren, Pa., died unexpectedly, Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021.

He was born in Warren, Pa., the son of the late N. Anthony (Tony) and Sylvia Lucia Scalise.

Tony was a member of the Warren Area High School, “class of 1969.” He was a graduate of Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio. Tony was an active member of SAE Greek Fraternity at YSU, the largest fraternity of the nation. He went through the ranks and was president, his senior year. After graduation, he was a national recruiter for the fraternity. He was also the branch manager of the Dollar Savings and Loan in Youngstown, Ohio.

In January 1989, he suffered a tragic car accident, which left him permanently disabled. He came back to Warren to the family home on Market Street. In July 1995, Tony and his brother, Craig, co-founded the Horton House Bed and Breakfast at 504 Market St., wanting to share their magnificent historic home. From July 4, 1995, to July 4, 2020 (25 years), he and his brother operated the Horton House B&B. Tony’s people skills made him the favorite with the guests. Tony and Craig were to retire from the B& B last summer, but due to the covid pandemic, decided to postpone the retirement until 2021.

Throughout his life, he displayed grace in every situation, real compassion for others and was a “True Gentleman”. He will be missed by all that knew him, especially his partner and brother, Craig.

Tony is survived by his siblings: Francie (John) Ross of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Craig Scalise of Warren, Pa., Sylvia (David) Sebold of Riverside, Calif.; his nieces and nephews and their children: Todd (Caryn) Ross, Nicholas and Matthew of Clarkston, Mich., Jennifer (Joe) Naylor, Jake, Ben and Kate of Liberty Township, Ohio, and Stephanie (Mark) Fissel, Max, Harrison, Jack and Bennett of Bellefontaine, Ohio.

A private funeral service will be conducted at the convenience of the family with the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., with Father Richard Tomasone, Pastor of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the Warren Public Library Association, 205 Market St., Warren, PA 16365 or to the Warren General Hospital, 2 Crescent Park, Warren, PA, 16365.

A celebration of life to be announced.
