Amphitheater at Soliders and Sailors Park Will be Named in Honor of Community Luminary Jim Zavinski

December 22, 2021

WARREN, Pa. – The amphitheater at Soldiers and Sailors Park will now officially have a name.

City Council approved the naming of the ’JAZz’ Amphitheatre, honoring Jim Zavinski for his years of community service in Warren.

The park, of course, is where Music in the Park is held, a program that Zavinski founded. There is expected to be a formal dedication at the opening of the 2022 season of Music in the Park. The ‘JAZ’ are Zavinski’s initials.

“This has been a long time coming,” said Mayor Maurice Cashman.

The council noted Zavinski’s countless efforts to make the community better, everything from starting the process to revamp Soldiers and Sailors Park, obtaining new letters for the ‘Warren Wishes You a Merry Christmas’ sign, restoring the flower garden at Crescent Park, working to have and improve Christmas decorations downtown and so much more.

He was also a longstanding member of the City Council.

“Jim has dedicated countless hours to the development of our community,” said Department of Public Works Director Mike Holtz.

Council noted that the signage for the amphitheater is going to be similar to that of Art Kelsey Park.

“He did all of this without any accolades,” Cashman said. “He’s a remarkable person.”
