The Warren golf team will have to replace Jared Bupp and Drew Swanson from the 2019 team that battled all season for the third spot in the region. The Dragons will have a number of returners coming back, including Owen Blum, Teagan Gray Storm Sivak and second-team all-region player Selvie Pearson.

Head coach Dan Passmore thinks he has a team about to take another step forward.

“We have a lot of players that are one summer away from being good, if they put the work in,” Passmore said.

The key, and one of the team’s goals this year, will be to translate what players shoot at practice to competitive matches.

With the region realignments due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts, the competition will be even stronger this season. Warren will compete with every Class 3A team in District 10, including: Cathedral Prep, Erie, General McLane, Harbor Creek, McDowell and Meadville. Prep and McDowell are the favorites to compete for the District 10 team title.

Passmore said prior to the season the Dragons would know exactly where they stand after the first region mega match. That happened, Monday, Aug. 31 in Meadville. Warren finished fourth at the event.

The Dragons shot 360 as a team. Gray led the team with an 84, while Blum was right behind with an 88. Sivak finished with a 93, Braddock Damore with a 95 and Pearson a 96.

Cathedral Prep (303) finished first in the team standings, followed by McDowell (327), Meadville (348), Warren, Erie (373), Harbor Creek (383) and General McLane (401).

Warren will host its lone mega match of the season, Thursday, Sept. 10 at Blueberry Hill Golf Course, followed by a trip to McDowell Friday, Sept. 11.
