LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Seventeen former Warren County standouts were among a record 4,163 students to earn PSAC Scholar-Athlete status for the 2020-21 season.
The 17 former county athletes on the PSAC list represented nine different member institutions and more than 10 different sports.
In order to be eligible, the 2020-21 student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 upon completion of the academic year.
Those county athletes who earned Scholar-Athlete this season are: Owen Balas (Gannon, wrestling); Andrew Beyer (Gannon, swimming); Summer Black (Seton Hill, equestrian); Nate Eadie (Slippery Rock, track and field/cross country); Alex Fincher (Clarion, golf); Michaela Giambrone (Gannon, cross country); Nick Giambrone (Clarion, golf); Mitch Grosch (Mercyhurst, baseball); Ellie Lobdell (California, softball); Margo Loutzenhiser (Gannon, basketball); Lex Nyquist (Bloomsburg, volleyball); Adam Pascuzzi (Edinboro, football); Ryan Rafalski (Mercyhurst, baseball); Troy Shattuck (Slippery Rock, track and field/cross country); Jessica Susz (Pitt-Johnstown, soccer); Paige Wilson (California, softball); Rachel Wilson (California, golf).
With 4,163 student-athletes eligible, it marked 55 percent of the PSAC student-athlete population. Both numbers break last year’s records of 50 percent and 3,763. The PSAC has now registered at least a 30 percent rate for 13 consecutive years. The total number of honorees has increased each year since the 2006-07 academic year.
This year, West Chester recorded the most in the league with 360 while also recording the highest percentage of scholar-athletes at 72 percent. Seton Hill recorded the second-highest total with 343, while Mercyhurst’s 67 percent was the second-best percentage rate.
Eleven institutions produced at least 200 scholar-athletes while 12 registered a rate of 50 percent or higher.
The PSAC will announce the winners of the Pete Nevins Scholar-Athletes of the Year Awards following the announcement of the PSAC Top 12.
